One Student at a Time
All year long, one of my students struggled with long division. We worked through the frustration, the confusion, and those moments when it felt like the numbers just didn’t make sense. Step by step, we kept going—practicing, trying new approaches, and building confidence piece by piece.
Then one day, something incredible happened. The student and his mom were at a local hamburger place, and there was a chalkboard on the wall. My student picked up the chalk and started working through a long division problem—on his own. And this time… he got it.
He solved it correctly, right there on the board. His face lit up with pride. His mom was so surprised and snapped a picture of his work. I couldn't have been more proud!
It wasn’t just about long division anymore—it was about confidence, perseverance, and believing in himself.
That’s why I teach math.
